#106 Times Square and “Mary Poppins” 6-4-09

From the Empire State Building we walked nine blocks to Times Square. It is unbelievable the amount of people that are on the street any time of the day and most of the night!

Collin and Rachel walked ahead of us and stood in line to get half price tickets to another Broadway Show. They are hooked on live theater!!! We were able to get tickets to Mary Poppins. We had one hour before show time, and we were hungry.

Off we went down 42nd Street to find a place to eat. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant we stopped, but it was a long walk! We were all tired by the time they seated us. Five is an odd number to get a table. Check out the size of the hamburger Rachel ordered.

Come on Rachel, lets see you take a bite of that.

I can’t believe she got her mouth around that burger!

Now that we are all rested and our hunger is sated, we headed to the New Amsterdam Theatre. We didn’t have to walk that far back to the theatre and we were able to get right in. Our seats were in the Mezzanine. We were a little off to the side, but not bad seats, especially for half price!

The theater is beautiful. I did take some pictures before the performance started.

This is the entry before we go into the theater. The lights were beautiful, but the carvings just below the ceiling were really beautiful.

This is the inside of the theatre. I couldn’t stop looking around. Everywhere was something different.

The carved roses above the loge boxes were amazing.

This show was a true Broadway performance. The sets were amazing, The singing and dancing were superb. We all agreed that this was the best of the trip.

It was our last day and evening together and it couldn’t have been better. We hugged and kissed and wished each a safe trip. The kids did some more shopping (at midnight) and we headed to the subway and the train back to the RV.

I can tell you that these two old people are tired! We stayed home on Friday and only did a few housekeeping chores. It rained all day, it was damp and overcast. Even the clothes dryer wouldn’t get the clothes dry! We just rested—tomorrow we head to upstate New York.

It was a lovely week and really nice to spend time with the kids!
