#52 Padre Island 2-14-09

We left Porta del Sol campground and drove across Corpus Christi to Padre Island. We found a county park right on the Gulf. Ellis Padre Park. The only thing that separated where we parked from the gulf was a big sand dune. We were parked right on the access walkway to the beach. The first day there was beautiful and we took our chairs and sat on the beach watching the surfers. The wind was blowing a little and it was chilly so most of the surfers were in wet suits. Of course, I forgot my camera and didn't get any pictures of them!
The next day was Valentine's Day so we drove over to Port Aransas and had a nice lunch overlooking the marina. Below is the view from our table. The sign warns us not to feed the birds! The weather was overcast and a bit windy. We hoped it would clear up by Sunday so we could go on a dolphin watch boat ride, but it didn't. In fact, it got colder and even rained a little.
Sunday we went to church, and then out to lunch at Catfish Charlie's in Corpus Christi. Really good catfish. Everything is deep fried here. Hush puppies are served before your lunch arrives. It was a nice relaxing day, and our last in Corpus Christi.
