#129 Vinalhaven, ME 8-2-09

We had such a beautiful day yesterday, we thought we would take a ferry ride out to one of the islands. It is supposed to be a beautiful ride through the bay. But, as you can see from the pictures below, we had nothing but fog all day!

We boarded the ferry around 11 am thinking the fog would surely lift by afternoon. It was so cold on deck-even with two jackets-we ended up back inside.

Frank took this picture as we were leaving the mainland. Can you see the fog?

While on Vinalhaven we walked down the street to find a place for lunch. This was outside one of the shops. Doesn’t Frank look good as a lobster?

More lobster lines. They are everywhere we go. And so many different colors.

This is Sunday at the port of Vinalhaven. The fog is thick, and most of the boats are anchored. It is against the law to pull in your lobster traps on Sunday. Everyone needs a day off!

We looked inside this building to see if anyone would really live in it with the kind of supports we see in this picture. Sure enough, it was a Potter’s workshop. No one lives there, just a working artist studio. I wonder if a big wave would knock down the supports?

We saw this on our way back to the ferry. The fog never lifted, and we were both glad to get back to the RV and turn on the heat. Heat in August!!! What a country.
