We left the state of Maine with many wonderful memories (and a few extra pounds). Not only did we love eating the lobster, but the Maine mosquitoes liked eating me!
On we went to the little town Springfield, in Vermont. where Todd’s friend David Heinz lives. We met David at Todd’s wedding and both said if we were ever near Vermont we would stop and see him. He has an old place (1600’s) barn and house. Unfortunately, I only took pictures of the “Oreo Cows” and forgot the barn! The cows have a real name, Banded Something, but I like the idea of Oreo Cookie cows!
David was very busy putting on a new roof on the barn. He took time out at the end of the day and showed us the inside of the barn, which is his woodworking shop. The uprights and beams and siding are from the original barn, which was built in the 1600’s. It is quite a structure. Lots of hand hewn timbers. I guess I was so awed by it all, I forgot to take pictures!
The next day while David was working, we did a little sight seeing around the area.
We saw these places while we were out driving around. The sign tells all about them.
As you can see we had a beautiful day for our drive.
We ended up at the Vermont Country Store. I had heard of the catalogue, and thought it would be interesting to see what they had. They had lots of stuff and boy was it expensive. We were going to buy some real Vermont Maple Syrup but at over $20.00 a bottle we left it and bought some from New Hampshire at the grocery store! It’s still from New England and I’m sure it’s from Maple trees, so must be just as good as Vermont Maple Syrup!
We picked up some Chinese food and drove back out to Davids and had dinner with him and wished him good luck with all his endeavors, we were leaving the next morning and heading back into New York.
