The ferry is loaded with people. And I do mean loaded. We felt like cattle being herded onto the boat. We did get a seat and then a entire class of children boarded and stood right in front of us hanging on the rail.
Our first look of the Statue of Liberty, over the shoulder of Rachel.
We reached the Island. What a great feeling. I couldn’t get enough pictures of the great lady.We went on a tour with the Ranger and learned a lot of the history of the statue. Did you know that the inside iron that holds her up was designed by same man who designed the Eifel Tower?
The island that Miss Liberty stands on is really pretty. As you can see we had a great tour.
Back on the ferry and we headed to Ellis Island. What a sight to see the building where so many immigrants came to the United States.
This had to be an awesome sight for them to see after so many days at sea.
Above and below is the great room where all of the immigrants came through before being let into the United States.
The flag above is made of a double side. One side has pictures and the other turns into the US flag. It is very neat.
On the wall of names we looked to see if we could find a name that might have belonged to our family. Elizabeth S. Cohen could have been my Great Grandmother who came over from Russia.
This is the ferry boat that took us back to Battery Park in Manhattan.
A squirrel looks over Collin as we rest for a minute.
We had to walk past Ground Zero so we took a few pictures.
You really can’t see much, it is one big hole in the ground with a lot of equipment working on building a new center.
Above and below is what is being proposed and started to be built.
The end of a wonderful day, we hopped on the subway then on the train and had a BBQ at the coach. We ate steak, corn on the cob, asparagus and biscuits. Then we made chocolate chip cookies for dessert. A real great day.
