After touring Laura Plantation we dropped by B & C Cajun Restaurant for lunch. Frank is greeting the resident alligator!
Next on our plantation tour was Oak Alley. This beautiful mansion was built behind this alley of Live Oaks. One of the most photographed sights in LA.
The Oaks on this entry way are over 300 years old. The house is only 200 years old.
This is the view from the second story of the plantation. We are looking down towards River Road which runs right by the Mississippi River.
The weather was turning colder and colder. We really couldn't enjoy the grounds of the plantation because of the weather. It must have dropped 40 degrees from the morning. We were in New Orleans eating breakfast outside enjoying the warm sun at 10:00 a.m. and by 4:00 p.m. we were wishing for gloves and ear muffs!
The big pot in the middle of the flower garden is an actual sugar cooking pot used on the plantation when the harvest was being cooked down from cane to syrup.
Our guide for the tour of the plantation home was dressed in the period and was very good at giving us some of the history of the home. This home only had 8 rooms. There were four rooms up stairs and four down stairs.
