#13 Farmington, NM End of July first of Aug 2008

We arrived in Farmington, NM about 1:00 p.m. It is hot, and we pulled into Mom & Pop RV Park during the heat of the day. Pop was out so we had to pick a spot and set up. There is only 30 amp connection for our electric, but we figured we could get buy just using one AC unit. Everything seemed fine until dinner time. Then when we started to use any extra electricity, the breaker outside switched off. So the first night we went out to dinner.
Pop, got back just as we were finished setting up the RV and we went in and paid him for the spot. It was only $20.00 a night and if you pay for 3 nights the 4th was free. So we figured we needed to do laundry, hair cuts, nails, and a little sight seeing, so we did the 4 nights. We have fought the electric every evening. Pop said the entire area has that problem about that time of the day. It's been hot here too. Over 100 degrees. But, it is the end of July, so we expect a little bit of heat.
The next day we drove out to 4 corners, the only place in the US that 4 states touch corners. It is in the middle of nowhere, and about 50 miles from Farmington. It is quite a site. The exact spot is on a monument with a big circle in the center, marking the corners. All around the site are little booths that the Indians of the area sell their crafts and even some Indian Fry Bread and food. We had to have at least one Indian Fry Bread!! Dixie didn't buy any jewelry--good girl! But Idid get some cute sandstone little plaques to put in the coach to show we actually did get to four corners.

This is the welcoming sign as you drive into the monument. Each of us had to pay $3.00 to go in. Just another way for the state to make a few bucks. As you can see in the background, there is really nothing out there.

Gidget and dixie are standing on the four corners of the states. I can tell you that the metal railings are really hot. There is a wooden platform for people to stand on and take pictures. Frank is up there taking our picture.

All the state flags are there and as you can see it is really a desolate area. The Indian booths are all around the monument under the plywood roofs. There isn't any AC, so they are right up there in the hot weather.

This is Ship Rock. It is on the Navajo land and all we could do is look at it. There aren't any roads anywhere near it. It just sits out in the middle of the desert.

This is what we figured is the Navajo Police building. There isn't any signs on it, but the Navajo police cars are all parked there. This is in the town of Shiprock.

We are leaving on Sunday, Aug. 3 to go to Durango. Hopefully it will be a little cooler there.
